The First Cut

Things have been crazy busy getting ready for the first day of school this next Wednesday, so I've been quieter than normal on the blog, but hopefully I'll get everything up to date in the next week or two...

I have yet to get a post up of Elizabeth's first haircut (I still don't have the pictures...), but when we were in Texarkana, David got his hair cut for the first time. Alan was threatening to do it himself with his clippers, but I quickly put a stop to that and said that the only person that was touching his hair (as of right now) was Mrs. Diane, the one who has cut my hair for a loooong time, plus done all of my special events hair styles...

I held him while he got it cut and attempted to keep him still... Despite being so young, David did great and looks like such a toddler now that his hair has been cut. Such a handsome little man!

Visit with Uncle Dustin (and Gammie and Pops)

We got to go down to Texarkana the weekend that my brother came in to town from Florida! Elizabeth was sooo excited to see him (it had been almost 9 months since we'd seen him). In fact, the day after he left (she was in Texarkana with my parents), she asked to get back in the car to go pick him back up. :) Hopefully we'll get to see him at Christmas! David liked him, too, but was unsure of the beard at first...

She loved Aunt 'Shelle's Barney!

David ended up liking the beard...

Our Little Man is Ten Months Old!

David,

Yet another month has come and gone and we are one month closer to your first birthday! I can't believe it... We're already starting to plan your birthday party, and I think it's going to be such a fun one! One hint for those that are interested... The Aggies are playing that day. ;) I think Daddy is going to be even more excited than you are, David! You love to chase after your sister and go anywhere that she does, which warms my Mommy heart! I see y'all interacting more and more, and I know this can only continue to blossom as you both get a little older. I can't wait to see what this next month is going to be like!

Your Daddy and I love you very much!
Mommy and Daddy

Weight: 19 lbs

Length: If I had to guess, I'd say somewhere between 29-30 inches

Diaper size: Size 3

Teeth: Six - three on the bottom and three on the top

Clothes size: 12 months, 12-18 months

Sleep: We've struggled in the sleep department again... We're having issues with nap time these days. You so obviously need two naps, but you're having a hard time sleeping. And then you're grumpy... until Daddy comes home. I have a feeling he doesn't believe me when I say you're grumpy when you don't get your sleep because your eyes light up and you become sooo happy when Daddy is home.

Favorite activities/things: Crawling after your big sister, empty diaper boxes, chewing on your hands or any toy, eating anything I feed you!

Eating: You still nurse every 3-4 hours during the day (a total of 5 times a day), but pretty soon we're going to drop the 10:30 session... you just aren't that interested at 10:30 and 4:30... You already skip it just fine if we're out and about - you don't even seem to miss it!

Nicknames: Little Man, Bubba, Buddy

Talking: You still love making noise, and we love to hear it! You're still saying "mamama," "bababa," and "dadada," and probably a ton of other things I'm not remember off the top of my head. I could've sworn that you said "mama" when I walked into the room on Wednesday (8/14), but you haven't said it since...

New adventures: This month you went to the doctor for the first time for a "sick" visit... You ended up with pink eye. Luckily, within 24 hours of the antibiotic you were back to your normal self! You also went

New Skills: You crawl everywhere... no more army crawling for you! You're also cruising along furniture really well. Every now and then you'll let go, too! And when Grammie and PawPaw were down for Parent Dedication, you discovered that you could walk pushing one of Elizabeth's old toys! You were soo excited! While Mommy was gone for her Preschool conference you learned to clap! Gammie thought you had been doing it for a while because you did it so matter-of-factly, so she was really surprised when she found out that you'd never done that before! Such a smart boy!

Potty Training Miss E

On Monday, I decided to take the plunge and begin potty training Elizabeth. Let me preface this by saying that I read NO books, just did what I thought and what I'd heard worked with other parents. Here is a play by play of what happened each day, Monday through Wednesday...

Monday

We started Monday out by wearing our new Minnie Mouse panties. Elizabeth was sooo excited to wear them, but quickly had her first accident. After having 5 accidents (and one of those wasn't just urine...) and no successes (despite pushing liquids and sitting on the potty every 15-20 minutes), I resorted to putting her in a pull-up for the rest of the day. She was ok with that, thank goodness, but I was just too tired of cleaning up the floor to do it any more...

Panties of choice

I normally let her play in her room while I nurse
D and/or put him down for nap, but I didn't want
to chance any accidents, so I laid our her napmat
and pillow and she watched a movie while I
was with David

Tuesday

Tuesday morning I told myself that I was giving her one more day, and if it went like Monday, Elizabeth just wasn't ready and we'd try again at a later date. I sat her on the potty with a sucker that morning. She didn't tinkle that time, but a couple hours later she had her first success! We ended the day with 5 successes, only two extremely MINOR accidents, and waking up from her nap with a dry pull-up! I was sooo proud of her! We took her to Bahama Bucks to celebrate with a yummy snow cone.

I let Elizabeth walk around naked all day, hoping that would help, and while it did, I also think it created a monster... Now almost as soon as I get her dressed, she completely undresses herself. Good thing she has a cute little hiney. ;)

The sucker that started
it all!

Wednesday

We started the day off with a bang... Elizabeth pooped in the potty, all on her own!! She then went several hours without doing anything, despite sitting on the potty every 30ish minutes. She had another very minor accident, but was able to stop herself and finish in the potty a little later. Elizabeth didn't stay dry after her nap, but that was my fault this time. She woke up after a 45 minute nap and I let her play for about 20 minutes. Next time, I'll have her potty when she wakes up then send her back to her room to play for a while longer (Mommy needs a little longer than 45 minutes to recharge...). The afternoon progressed and we ended the night with two more mini-accidents followed by two successes on the potty!

I definitely don't think she's all the way there yet, but I do know that she loves to run around naked and she knows you "don't teetee on the floor, you teetee on the potty." :) She's a smart girl and I can't wait to see how quickly she's in panties all the time!

Parent Dedication

This past Sunday, our church had Parent Dedication (much like baby dedication). It's where we, as parents, make the commitment to raise our children according to God's word. We received a family Bible instead of the baby New Testaments, and I can't wait to begin using it as a family!

My dad was on call for the weekend, so they weren't able to make it, but Alan's parents did! We had a lot of fun catching up with them, and even managed to uncover some major utility issues that have to be fixed (more on that later...). We all hung out at the house the majority of the day, but we definitely ate some yummy food! Chick-fil-a salads and Aubelo's for dinner...Can't get much better than that!

For some reason my "good" camera isn't working, but Alan's mom had hers, so I got a couple good pictures from the weekend. :)
